SMS QR code, also known as text message QR code, is a wonderful option for your audience to reach out to you since everyone who has a phone, would have access to SMS. SMS QR code is also a great alternative if the audience you’re catering to doesn’t know much about emails. It’s practically the same thing as an email QR code except for the fact that the platform being used is SMS.
By scanning a SMS QR code, a SMS will be sent to a pre-determined phone number from the scanner’s phone without much effort. A pre-populated text message can also be added along with that number.
SMS which is the short form for Short Messaging Service is the primary method of sending or receiving messages on your phone also known as text messages. An SMS QR code is obtained using an SMS QR code generator which once scanned, opens a preset message along with the recipient phone number on the scanner’s phone.
So, an SMS QR code is a code that led the user to send a text message to a pre-determined phone number.
Let us look at the steps involved in creating the QR Code for SMS with our QR code generator:
Under the QR code generator’s SMS tab, make sure you enter your country code correctly and then enter the phone number in the phone number field. This forms the recipient phone number, that is the number to which the message will be sent. This will come prefilled when the QR code is scanned.
The next step is to add a message that will form the body of your text message or SMS that will go to the phone number you enter in step 1. You may even choose to leave it blank. Be it if you add a pre-populated text message or leave it blank, anyone who scan the code can still modify or add to the message before sending it out.
This is an optional step. With our QR code generator you will have the option to design and customize the appearance of the QR code. Once done your QR code is ready to be downloaded.
The last step is to download the QR code. You have the option to download it as PNG or SVG, or print it out.
Once you have obtained the required QR code, ensure that you test it before you start using it. You can test by scanning the QR code and checking whether it shows the correct phone number and message.
When a QR code is scanned, how it works will depend on the user’s device. Here is a list of possibilities when a user scans a QR code to send text message.
When a QR code for text message is scanned using the iPhone’s in-built camera, a notification will appear on the top of the screen. When a user taps on the notification, the user will be automatically led to the messaging app with a pre-filled number and a text message that has been set for the QR code.

When a user scans the QR code using the default Camera app, a notification ‘View QR code details’ will appear. Upon tapping this, the number and the message is revealed. From here the user can only copy the number and the message and then they will have to go to the messaging app where the number and the message will automatically appear. However, this may vary with different Android phone.
