Google Slides is a free online presentation tool that allows you to create presentations for personal and business use. It is a part of the free Google Drive service. It shares almost all the features and options of a presentation program like Microsoft PowerPoint. It gives you a sense of extra safety, as it includes cloud storage. This means that users’ presentations are automatically uploaded to the cloud, so even if your computer dies, or your hard drive goes crazy, you can restore your work.
Google Slides can be accessed from the web browser of a computer or mobile device, without the need to install any additional software. It’s also available as an app on iOS and Android devices. An internet connection and a Google account are required to access Google Slides.
The main features of Google Slides are the ability to insert images, formatted texts, animations, and other media; the availability of a good selection of templates for every occasion; and the ability to edit transitions between slides, so you can make your work more dynamic. Another useful feature is collaborative editing: multiple people can work on the same slides, at the same time. All the changes are saved automatically, and you can see what they are doing in real-time.
When you scan a QR code for Google Slides, the Google Slides file encoded in the QR code will load on your device. You must have a Google account to access the Google Slides file. A Google Slides QR code can be created with a QR code generator.
You would need to obtain the Google Slides URL before making a QR code for Google Slides.
On Google Slides, go to ‘File’ and click on ‘Share’.
On the ‘Get link’ pop-up, click on ‘Copy link’ to copy the URL.
You can also set the link parameters as ‘Restricted’ or ‘Anyone with the link’.
The default is ‘Restricted’ where only people added can open with this link. That means when someone scans the QR code, they would need to seek permission to access the file. If you change to ‘Anyone with the link’, then anyone with this link can access the file and no permission is required.
On the Google Slides app, select the file you want to share and tap on the three horizontal dots icon on the top right.
On the pop-up menu, tap on ‘Share and export’, followed by ‘Copy link’ to copy the URL.

Option – Edit the size and precision of the QR code. By default, it’s set to 600 and medium.
You can save the QR code as a PNG or SVG file or print it if your device is linked to a printer. It is a good practice to scan your QR code to ensure it works correctly before using it.
When the user scans the Google Slides QR code using an iOS or Android device’s camera, the Google Slides app will launch on their device. Google Slides will load in the browser if the user does not have the Google Slides app installed on their device. If the camera is unable to read the QR code, the user must download and install a third-party QR code reader to scan the QR code.
If you designate the Google Slides file as ‘restricted’ during the configuration, the user will be prompted to request authorization to access it. They will have access to the Google Slides file once consent is granted by the file’s owner. If you configure it to ‘anyone with the link’ during setup, the user will have immediate access.
In any case, Google account is required to access the Google Slides document.
Apart from PowerPoint, Google Slides is one of the most used tools to make a presentation. It’s easy to send a share link of your Google Slides to people you know, but what if you are in a situation where you need to share Google Slides with people whom you do not have contact details of?
For example, you are a lecturer and have a class of over 100 students. You may need to share your Google Slides with your students at the end of the class, and this is when a Google Slides QR code comes in handy! Here, you could provide a Google Slides QR code, and your students can just scan it and access the folder.
Google Slides QR Codes can be used to share files in schools, universities, companies, organizations, or events like conferences, seminars, or open houses.
In a seminar, it’s common for some attendees to want a copy of the presentation slides. Instead of showing the slides’ URL or email to everyone, a smarter way is to generate a QR code for Google Slides and present it on the last slide. This will allow everyone in the room to scan the QR code projected on the screen and obtain the presentation slides.
As long as your slides don’t contain any proprietary or sensitive information, it’s a good practice to share a Google Slides QR code at the end of the presentation, so that attendees can access the files if they want to.
