How to Create a QR code for a Google Doc? | Google Doc QR Code Generator

In this article, we will cover the basics on Google Docs and Google Doc QR code. We will also go over how to obtain a Google Doc URL, how to create a Google Doc QR code and how does it work? We will also look at the applications of Google Doc QR code.

What is Google Doc?

Google Docs is a web word processor that allows you to create a document, modify it, and easily share it with other users so you can work on it together. It is a part of the free Google Drive service. This application is similar to the online version of Microsoft Word.

As long as you have access to the Internet and a Google account, you can use it from any computer’s browser application. Moreover, you can download its app on your mobile device, no matter if you are Android or iOS, so you can check your documents whenever you go. Every change in a Google Doc is automatically saved, guaranteeing no data loss. There’s no fear of forgetting to hit the save button. Also, even when there is a sudden Internet connection error, editors can still make changes to the Google Doc offline.

It is the easiest way to create and edit documents online while collaborating with other people in real-time. You can see who’s in the doc in real-time, and in which part are they working, as every user has a specific color.

What is a Google Doc QR Code?

When you scan a QR code for Google Doc, the Google Doc file encoded in the QR code will load on your device. You must have a Google account to access the Google Doc file. A Google Doc QR code can be created with a QR code generator.

How to Obtain Google Doc URL?

You would need to obtain the Google Doc URL before making a QR code for Google Doc.

Step 1 – Click on ‘Share’

On Google Doc, go to ‘File’ and click on ‘Share’.

Step 2 – Click on the ‘Copy link’ Button

On the ‘Get link’ pop-up, click on ‘Copy link’ to copy the URL.

You can also set the link parameters as ‘Restricted’ or ‘Anyone with the link’.

Step 1 – Tap on the Three Horizontal Dots Icon

On the Google Doc app, select the file you want to share and tap on the three horizontal dots icon on the top right.

Step 2 – Click on the ‘Copy Link’ Button

On the pop-up menu, tap on ‘Share and export’, followed by ‘Copy link’ to copy the URL.

The default is ‘Restricted’ where only people added can open with this link. That means when someone scans the QR code, they would need to seek permission to access the file. You can also set the link parameters to ‘Anyone with the link’ where anyone can access the file and no permission is required. You can change this by tapping on ‘Manage people and links’.

How Does a Link QR code to Google Doc work?

When the user scans the Google Docs QR code using an iOS or Android device’s camera, the Google Docs app will launch on their device. Google Docs will load in the browser if the user does not have the Google Docs app installed on their device. If the camera is unable to read the QR code, the user must download and install a third-party QR code reader to scan the QR code.

If you designate the Google Docs file as ‘restricted’ during the configuration, the user will be prompted to request authorization to access it. They will have access to the Google Docs document once consent is granted by the file’s owner. If you configure it to ‘anyone with the link’ during setup, the user will have immediate access.

In any case, Google account is required to access the Google Docs document.

Applications for Google Doc QR Code

It’s convenient to share a link to your Google Docs document with your contacts via email or communication apps, but when it comes to sharing in the offline world, it is so much easier to use a QR code. Maybe you intend to share a document via a poster. But instead of using a link on the poster for your audience to type in their phones and computers, you can provide a QR code that goes straight to the Google Docs document.

Google Doc QR codes can be used to share documents with other people, no matter if it is at school, at university, in a company, or at any type of event, conference, or seminars. You can include them on your presentation slides, posters, notes, or even books. It is up to your imagination!

Let’s say you are a speaker for a seminar about economics in two days. You have a wonderful document that explains it all perfectly, but maybe it is too much to read on your slides or include in your presentation… But you still want to share it, because it is really good material! Then, what should you do?

In one of your slides, you insert a QR code that goes straight to the Google Docs document. Yes, you can provide the link, but your audience would need to type it on their phones and tablets, and this can be so frustrating! But with a QR code, all they have to do is to take their cameras out, point to the screen, and access your document. Easy, simple, and fast!
