What is Microsoft Excel?

Excel is a Microsoft software program that lets a user create, edit and formulate various types of data using rows and columns inside a spreadsheet. You can easily make spreadsheets using pre-made templates or prepare one on your own. The program can recognize patterns in your data and automatically organizes it to save you time.

One of the handiest features in Excel is giving you the ability to manipulate the values you enter by inserting basic and intricate mathematical functions and operations. Many formulas and shortcuts are available in the software that can be used to improve its functionality. For this reason, Excel is trusted by companies of all sizes to execute financial analysis and other tasks to boost business productivity.

That and many more can be done with this compelling tool. The PC version of Excel is what most people are used to. But the more recent versions, web and mobile (iOS and Android), offer a whole slew of quality features. Though, you will need the internet and a Microsoft account to access them. But with these versions, any change you make is automatically saved in the cloud. This means that in case your computer dies, your work can still be safely restored. And because it’s online, easy sharing and real-time collaboration are available.

How to Obtain Excel URL?

You would need to obtain the Excel URL before making a QR code for Excel.

Note: This refers to Excel in Office 365 / Microsoft 365 (the online version), not the one installed on the computer.

Step 1 – Click on ‘Share with People’

On Excel, go to ‘File’, click on ‘Share’, follow by ‘Share with people’.

Step 2 – Click on the ‘Copy Link’ Button

On the ‘Send link’ pop-up, click on ‘Copy link’ to copy the URL.

The default is ‘Anyone with the link can edit’. This implies that anyone who uses this URL to access the file may view and edit it. You can disallow editing, set an expiration date and create a password.

No Microsoft account is required to access the file.

Step 1 – Tap on the Three Horizontal Dots Icon

On the Excel app, select the file that you want to share and tap on the ‘Share’ icon on the top right.

Step 2 – Click on the ‘Copy Link’ Button

On the dropdown menu, tap on ‘Copy Link’ and you will be presented with two options: ‘View Only’ and ‘View and Edit’.  Tapping on any one of the options would copy the URL.

‘View and Edit’ means anyone who accesses the file via this link can view and edit the file, while ‘View’ means anyone who accesses the file via this link can only view the file.

No Microsoft account is required to access the file.
